Iñigo Sesma
San Sebastian, Spain, 1987.

Graduated in Fine Arts in the University of Barcelona (2011), he moved to New York and continued his studies both in the National School and Academy of Arts and in the School of Visual Arts. After that, he consolidated his studies with the Master degree in Painting at the UPV (University of the Basque Country) in 2016.

Once settled in his studio in San Sebastian he started doing different artistic residencies abroad in Berlin, Germany (2015) and Los Angeles, United States (2017). In 2017 he was selected as a finalist in the BP Portrait by the National Gallery in London where his work was exhibited around  the United Kingdom and Scotland. He has made collective and individual exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, highlighting his individual exhibitions in Los Angeles in 2018 and in Paris in 2020 and 2022. He has also participated in different international art fairs such as Scope (Miami), Urban Art Fair (Paris), Urvanity (Spain) and Moniker Art Fair (New York) among others.

He is currently based in San Sebastian, being part of Formato Norte artist collective, where he complements his studio work with the outdoor murals, becoming these, an extension of his pictorial language. In recent years he has painted murals in different cities of the United States, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Bosnia, Belgium and Australia, among other places.

¨Immersed in both the scenery and the peculiarities of his characters, Iñigo delves into the creative process, both physically and emotionally, crafting what feels like a pictorial documentary shaped by his personal experiences and observations during his various travels. He is interested in applying a cinematic language, as if it were straight out of a Wim Wenders road movie or even an American '60s beatnik book. Iñigo creates a painting that explores the diversity of cultures, communities, urban spaces, architectures and landscapes. His work, does not include standard narratives but portrays the atmosphere of the stage next to the human condition of the places he visits, turning his images into his most honest description of the mundane beauty.¨
